11th Wife of Captain James Brown of the Mormon Battalion    Lavinia Mitchell Brown Horrocks July 22, 1837 to March 16, 1905 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England to  Ogden, Weber, Utah Compiled by Lucy Brown Archer Lavina [Lavinia, Lovina] Mitchell was born 22 July 1837, at Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, a daughter of Hezekiah Mitchell and Sarah Mallinson. She was baptized 4 July 1847.  Lavinia came to America with their parents in 1848 and they settled in Ogden, Weber, Utah.  Lavinia Mitchell's Parents Sarah Mallinson Mitchell Hezekiah Mitchell Lavinia's Siblings Standing, L to R: Priscilla, Frederick, Lavinia. (Lavina is about age 38 years old.) Sitting, L to R: Sarah Ann, Elizabeth, Maria. Lavina married (1) Captain James Brown, 7 September 1856, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Endowment House [Logan?], 27 March 1857, by Heber C. Kimball. Captain James Brown wrote a letter from Ogden, Utah to Hezekiah Mitchell in to inform the family that he had married their daughter Lavinia. Children of Captain James Brown and Lavinia Mitchell Brown: 1.   Sarah Lavinia Brown, born October 21, 1858 in Ogden, Weber, Utah. Sarah married Joseph Drysdale 2.   Augustus Hezikiah Brown, born March 1, 1861 in Ogden, Weber, Utah; md. Eliza Harriet Plant (b. c.1866 at Walton, Northampton, England); d. March 29, 1916. After Captain Brown's death, Lavinia married (2) John Horrocks on 20 January 1865. Horrocks was born around 1833 and was from Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. Lavina and John Horrocks had a son, Samuel Alexander Horrocks, born on July 17, 1873. in Ogden Samuel married Jean [Jane] Weir Purdie on December 2, 1896, born May 30, 1877 in Scotland. Samuel and Jean had a daughter, Verna Horrocks born in 1897. Lavina's sisters, Maria Mitchell Brown and Elizabeth Mitchell, married John's brother, Edward Gregory Horrocks. Lavina married (3) Captain James Beacon. Little is known about this marriage. [It seems that husband one and three could be the same person.] Lavina died 16 March 1905 in Ogden, Weber, Utah. She was buried the 18 March 1905, the headstone has not yet been located.
