J. Gordon Brown has identified these folks as his father Dewey B. Brown, Martha Diana Romney Brown, perhaps Miles Romney Brown, and perhaps Orson Juarez Brown. The date had to have been prior to 1943, Matties death year. The dates printed on the edges of the photo may have been an attempt to identify the year of Captain Brown's demise, 1863.

These pictures are a real puzzle. Joan Clark received this same family picture from the Stephens family identifying the young woman sitting on the far right as Celestia Jane Stephens wife of Nephi Francis Brown - son of James Morehead Brown. Another researcher thought she was Cynthia Abbott, sister of Phoebe Abbott. Martha Brown Davis has an original photo of this same family picture with the names "Ovid Foy" and below his name is written "(Phoebe Abbott and her second husband after Capt. James Brown died"). "Phoebe" was crossed out Oct.21, 2005 at the Brown Family Reunion and "Cynthia" was written above it.as seen in the image below. Another problem is that Phoebe married her second husband Colonel William Nicol Fife and the man in this photo is definitely not William Fife (http://www.orsonprattbrown.com/Fife/WmNicolFife1831-1915.html).
Also we know that Phoebe Abbott Brown Fife is not in this photo as we have positive identification from the Layton family (http://www.orsonprattbrown.com/phoebe-journals.html).
So then who is Ovid Foy? Grant "Duke" Galbraith Brown married Georgiana Foy in 1927and in his journal wrote that her father was Ovid Foy and her mother was Molina Foy (see: http://www.orsonprattbrown.com/jane-grant.html). The 1900 and 1920 census shows Ovid Foy, and possibly his brother, Mitchel Foy and family, living in Yakima, Washington, where Grant lived and met Georgiana Foy. The Foy's moved to Washington state from Canada.

Martha told me she received this photo from Donald Brown who obtained it from Grant "Duke" Brown. Donald, took care of Duke in his last days and, inherited his photos, etc. Duke was married to Georgiana Foy. Where does this take us for identifying this photo.

We know Bertha Brown, and Martha Gabaldon Brown are on the left, and Mary Brown is on the right
but who is the woman in the center wearing a hat? Can you identify her and tell us?
