Lorna Raty Brown passed away with family at her side in her home on Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 11:00 a.m. from cancer at the age of 51. Lorna was born Dec. 25, 1955 in Ogden, Utah to Thomas Laine and Jennie Clavell Brown Raty. She married James Wilde Brown II on Nov. 5, 1988 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Lion House. Lorna and James are the proud parents of Mathew William (13), Ian Daniel (10), and McKay Thomas Brown (7). Lorna attended Ogden and Orem City schools, graduating from Orem High School in 1974. She became Orem High Schools Sterling Scholar in Art. She competed in the high school Seminary Bowl competition and was on the winning intercollegiate microbiology team representing BYU. She graduated with a BS in Clinical Chemistry and Microbiology from BYU and completed a Masters of Foods and Nutrition from University of Utah in 1988. Lorna's careers included medical transcription, and clinical dietician. Lorna worked as a transcriptionist at home in order to be with her children. She was always devoted to all her family, including her extended family, contributed genealogy and family histories. She served community and national causes of gun control and child abuse prevention. She enjoyed working in the yard, classical music, art, animals, and family trips. Her greatest love was in her marriage and in parenting three fine sons. We are so glad her life was spared for nearly eight years after her cancer was diagnosed. Lorna is survived by her parents and siblings Dallas Laine (Janae) Raty, Janet (Russell) Foutin, Brenda (Dennis) Miller and William Raty. Lorna was the third of five children. James's parents are James Wilde Brown and Joyce Lavee Walker Brown; sister, Jennifer Brown (Steve) Yates. Funeral services for Lorna will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 S. Highland Dr. in Salt Lake City, where friends may visit with the family on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday morning one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Washington Heights Cemetery, at 4500 Washington Blvd. Ogden, UT, preceded by Scottish bagpipes. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Primary Children's Medical Center, or charity of your choice in Lorna's name.
